Skill Development for Sustainable Livelihoods in Thaha Municipality

📌In Thaha Municipality, limited employment opportunities and economic hardship have significantly affected rural communities, particularly women and youth. To address these challenges, Being Youth, with the support of ONGD-FNEL, implemented targeted skill development programs focused on women’s sewing training and men’s hemp and allo fiber extraction. These initiatives aim to create sustainable livelihood opportunities while promoting local skills and resources.

🧵The Women’s Sewing Skill Development Program has equipped participants with practical skills in garment making, including drafting, cutting, and stitching. Through both basic and advanced training, women have produced different clothing designs like school uniforms and fashionable clothes. This initiative has led to the establishment of Thaha Garment, where 7 women are currently employed and earning a monthly income of approximately NPR 12,000–15,000.

💪Beyond income generation, the program has strengthened women’s confidence, independence, and role in household decision-making, with some participants even starting their own small businesses.

🌿Similarly, the men’s skill development program on hemp and allo fiber extraction has focused on utilizing locally available, eco-friendly resources to create livelihood opportunities. A total of 11 participants were trained in fiber extraction and processing techniques, and a fiber extraction machine was provided to support practical application.

♻️This training has enhanced participants’ technical knowledge and introduced them to sustainable production practices, opening opportunities for income generation through natural fiber products while preserving traditional skills.

🌍Overall, these skill development initiatives have contributed to diversifying income sources, strengthening local entrepreneurship, and promoting environmentally sustainable practices. By empowering both women and men with relevant skills, the project is fostering greater economic resilience and laying the foundation for long-term community development.
