Skill Development for Sustainable Livelihoods in Thaha Municipality

In Thaha Municipality, limited employment opportunities and economic hardship have significantly affected rural communities, particularly women and youth. To address these challenges, Being Youth, with the support of ONGD-FNEL, implemented targeted skill development programs focused on women’s sewing training and men’s hemp and allo fiber extraction. The Women’s Sewing Skill Development Program has equipped participants with practical and market-relevant skills in garment making, including drafting, cutting, stitching, and finishing techniques, leading to the establishment of Thaha Garment, where 7 women are employed and earning a stable monthly income of NPR 12,000–15,000. Beyond income generation, the program has empowered women socially and economically by improving their confidence, independence, and decision-making power, with some participants also starting their own small tailoring businesses.

Similarly, the men’s skill development program on hemp and allo fiber extraction has focused on utilizing locally available eco-friendly resources, where a total of 11 participants were trained and a fiber extraction machine was provided for practical use. The training enhanced participants’ technical knowledge and introduced sustainable production methods, opening opportunities for income generation through natural fiber-based products while preserving traditional skills.

Overall, these initiatives have contributed to diversifying income sources, strengthening entrepreneurship, and promoting environmentally sustainable practices, fostering long-term community development in Thaha Municipality.
